Always looking to continue the growth of drag racing through the involvement of young racers, the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is pleased to announce the addition of Junior Dragsters to the Heat Wave division on the Summit Pro-Am Tour in 2012.
Already included regularly in Division 4 and Division 9, a strong showing of Junior racers in the southeast has led to the addition of the miniature dragsters to the Division 2 schedule at each Pro-Am in 2012, another exciting addition to the growing division.
“We look forward to the addition of Junior Dragster to an already stellar division,” said Division 2 Director Frank Kohutek. “This is a big step in further attracting new racers and getting them involved with the sport at an early age. There are a lot of young racers in that part of the country and we can’t wait to get them involved.”
In addition to being a popular move among the racers, the addition is also exciting for the track owners as well as the division gears up for an eight-race season beginning in February at Immokalee Regional Raceway with stops later in the year at Bradenton Motorsports Park, Carolina Dragway and Darlington Dragway.
“I am very glad to see juniors added to Division 2. I have always wanted juniors in the division as we have a large following at our weekly events,” said Jeff Miles, track operator at Carolina Dragway. “I have to thank Frank for giving us the opportunity to have a place to showcase the stars of our future here in Division 2 and giving them an opportunity to win a division championship.”
